Bringing home a newborn is always a big deal but when you already have a child at home, a parents biggest concern is how the older sibling will adjust. Clearly, this needn’t be a concern for this family, as Simon was welcomed with loving arms by his big brother. Doesn’t that first image just melt your heart?
I was so happy to create these images for this loving family to enjoy for years to come. I’ve said it time and time again, but we are their memory keepers. We take hundreds of thousands of images of our kiddos, but how often do we print them? And I don’t mean just Christmas cards. I’m talking about the albums that they’ll pull out to show their grandchildren one day. Make sure you get in those images parents and make sure they are printed! Your family will thank you.

Isaiah was so good to me- he slept soundly through his session and enjoyed every minute of his snuggles with mom and dad. They clearly loved it too, they are so smitten with their boy! It was really cool to see strong family resemblances between him and three other handsome baby boys I’ve photographed over the years- those genes run strong! I’m obsessed with his petite little face and that adorable pout!

I’m going to forewarn you all that this is a very image heavy post. This is my brand new baby niece, sweet Indie Mae. She was long waited for and very much loved before we ever knew what she looked like. I had the best time photographing her and the hardest time narrowing the images down to share with you all. Every single one speaks to my heart! Her amazing eyelashes that curl straight up, those newborn flaky toes, all those things that make her so perfectly precious. And every little headband, bonnet and outfit was handmade by her mama, owner of Baby in Vogue.

Photographers dream of sessions like this. A newborn baby over 10 lbs, with delicious rolls and soft fuzzy hair, who sleeps so deeply that nothing bothers him?! So, so good. A little boy to make it three. Elias’s newborn session was so much fun and full of laughs and love. It was my pleasure to create these beautiful images for them to remember this time by. When Elias was still so small and his skin still showed all the signs of a newborn. That fuzz on his cheeks, the flakes on his toes, the way he fit in their arms. And how much his brothers loved him, loudly and yet still so gently. This time disappears in a haze. But these images will always bring back precious memories for this family.

One of my most asked questions is this: ‘will you include the parents and/or siblings in the newborn session?’. And my answer is alway ‘yes!’. I truthfully believe that those images are the MOST important. Yes, it’s so nice to have images of baby alone but nothing shows off her tiny size better than the comparison of daddy’s hands. There’s no better way to show her when she’s older how much her mama just LOVED on her. And those images of her with her 2 year old twin brothers? Well they don’t have a ton of interest in her right now, but when she’s older those brothers will be her playmates, protectors, best friends. And so I encourage relational images in every single session. Absolutely, it sometimes feels chaotic (especially when toddlers are involved). But as I tell my clients, it’s a brief moment of crazy to get images like these. I know that these images will be forever cherished. And that’s what’s most important.

If ever a newborn session has stood out to me over the years for the level of emotion involved, it would be this one. A long awaited little boy arrived to make this family of 5 complete. This gorgeous little boy made it easy for me to capture his families story by contentedly sleeping throughout our time together. In just one hour we had created so many beautiful images of him that I’m sure they’ll cherish forever. It’s always my goal to make sure all the things that make a baby special are captured in detail so his parents can look back one day and remember fondly. The little details like his long lashes and that extra little bit of fuzz on their newborn bodies, his double chin and those rolls on his arms. But most important of all, is capturing their love for him.
